The Sleep and Health Research Lab was established in 2024 and is part of the Department of Psychology at the University of Notre Dame.

Sleep is a fascinating topic. We spend nearly a third of our lives sleeping and yet know relatively little about it. Our lab's specific research focus is on insomnia. This starts with understanding the etiology and pathophysiology of insomnia. That is, how does one develop insomnia?

We also know that insomnia is not only bad for your sleep, it's also bad for your health. This is another guiding principle for the work that we do. Insomnia affects a lot of people every day and we often overlook the negative consequences it can have on our overall mental and physical health. For this reason, our research also focuses on the role of insomnia as a risk factor for other health conditions (e.g., depression).

Our hope is that this work will help identify clinically useful markers that may inform future treatment and prevention efforts. More specifically, our lab also studies how behavioral interventions for sleep (e.g., CBT-I) may improve overall health
